Position Summary

The Health & Safety Coordinator will implement health and safety systems within the project, identify hazards and assess risks to health and safety, recommend appropriate safety controls to the construction team and provides advice on incident prevention and occupational health to management and employees. Support a culture of Health and Safety vigilance, accountability, ownership, awareness, and leadership across the workplace.

Responsibilities 

General
  • A comprehensive knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation and processes, including competence in the implementation of OHS change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of incident investigation and reporting requirements.
  • Implement a culture of Occupational Health and Safety vigilance, accountability, ownership, awareness and leadership across the workplace.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to influence leaders and employees across the organisation.
  • Ability to work with our project delivery teams to close out any non-conformances and/or areas for improvement raised in both internal and external audits
Operational
  • Take responsibility for Safety Performance of your assigned area.
  • Ensure the implementation of organisational Safety Management Systems
  • Follow instructions issued by management and provide support to delivery team Report work health and safety hazards, incidents and injuries
  • Take reasonable care to maintain a high standard of workmanship, protect the work health and safety of themselves, their fellow workers and other workers on site
  • Perform Roles & Responsibilities as described in the HSMPs and OMRs
  • Identify, review and analyse high risk activities in conjunction with the appropriate personnel and recommends approach to be taken
  • Ensure that all project team members including subcontractors and suppliers are aware of the Roles and Responsibilities of the HSMP that are relevant to them 
  • Actively ensure that subcontractors and suppliers are complying with legislative, client and SPA work health and safety and environmental requirements
  • Support project team members and subcontractor supervisors with meeting their safety KPIs
  • Assess high risk activities and, in conjunction with the appropriate personnel, recommend the approach to be taken
  • Be actively involved in the investigation and debrief of all Lost Time Injuries and critical incidents that occur on the project
  • Recognise and reward positive examples of safety and sustainability practice
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge with industry legislation and standards
  • Review aspects of constructability/buildability with respect to safety in design development
  • Maintain an in depth understanding of key program activities by fully monitoring the timing and sequencing operations of the project

  • Wellbeing: Support the strategy to ensure the Health and Wellbeing of all workers is monitored.
  • Client Relationships: Understand the impact of decision on client relationships
  • Commercial Standards: Delivers to expected commercial standards and NELNA Safety Budget requirements
Continuous Improvement
  • Support the development and implementation of positive initiatives to enhance the working experience for the Alliance.
  • Contribute to the Project Strategic Plan, participating in the implementation of key people initiatives.
  • Support the implementation and development of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and delivery across the Alliance.

Key Requirements

  • Communicate plans and activities to assist in coordination of work through attendance at team and supervisors’
  • Contribute to initiatives which will drive innovation on the project
  • Incidents to be entered Lucidity as per Acciona Incident Reporting requirements · Incidents and actions plan to be closed before due date
  • Undertake Workpack and SWMS reviews
  • Work together with site management on site to maintain compliance with relevant organisational processes
  • Monitor and report back to the senior safety coordinator on safety trends, performance, and issues
  • Support project & site engineers in facilitating risk workshops
  • Assist and drive the KPI charter for relevant area
  • Input into the 3D Safety daily pre-start and or Toolbox

  • Actively participate in and drive a culture of collaboration, discipline, innovation, adaptability to change and care.
  • Ensure safety and sustainability are always front of mind
  • Ensure compliance and adhere to Project systems, processes and standards. 
  • Lead by example by promoting a positive work health and safety culture.

Minimum Qualifications &/or Skills:
  • Certificate IV of Work Health and Safety or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in construction as a safety practitioner
  • General Construction Induction (White) Card (Essential)
  • Drivers Licence (Current)
  • Experience populating and maintaining online competency management records, onboarding documentation, and competency matrices.
  • Experience working in the infrastructure or commercial construction industry sectors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work well both independently and collaboratively.

Competencies
  • Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card, with appropriate training, inductions, competencies, roles and medical to perform your duties, ensuring the card is always current.
  • Training and Assessment Cert IV (Desirable)
  • Provide First Aid (Level 2), ensuring this certificate is always current.
  • ICAM Investigations (Desirable)
