Job Purpose
The Health Coordinator will be responsible for planning, developing and evaluating culturally appropriate health promotion programs and activities that address priority health needs of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community located within the 7 Local Government Areas within the EMR. This role will also be responsible for liaising with relevant health providers and organisations to connect the local Indigenous community with appropriate health-related cultural events in consultation with the management team.
A fundamental focus of the position will address and embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community’s values of cultural determinants of health including factors such as cultural identity, family and kinship, country and caring for country, cultural knowledge, wisdom and beliefs, language and participation in cultural activities and access to traditional lands are also key determinants of health and wellbeing.
Key ResponsibilitiesService Delivery, Culture, Engagement and Diversity• Effective engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community living in the EMR.
• Work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to understand and address their specific community social and cultural needs and aspirations.
• Engage with key stakeholders and experts to support the development of tailored, sustainable and scaled up health and wellbeing promotion and prevention projects.
• Work in close partnership and in consultation with the CEO, Management and programs staff to develop community activities that are stand alone as well as across various program activities.
• In partnership with Management, develop evaluation frameworks and regularly review Health Promotion Plan.
• Explore and promote innovative ways to promote preferred health outcomes.
• Focus on best practice in health promotion and collect data to support the design and scope of sustainable projects.
• Coordinate and implement the EMR First Nations Healthy Pathways Expo
• Demonstrate behaviours aligned with Values and Code of Conduct.
• Adhere to Child Safe Policy, confidentiality and related policies to ensure the highest standards of operations are upheld and underpinned by the values and goals of the organisation.
• Organise and administer recreational activities and programs that foster community and connectedness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.
• Provide a culturally safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to practice their culture, identity and learn through strength-based approaches.
• Provide an inclusive and safe space for the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community including LTGBI+ and people living with a disability by ensuring that the programs offered are accessible and non-discriminatory.
• Provide a trauma-informed practice approach that is holistic, empowering, strengths-focused, collaborative and reflective.
• Actively participate in and promote all required training, inductions and health related opportunities relevant to the role
• Other duties as directed.
Reporting, Systems and Analytics• Ensure program implementation is informed by an appropriate evaluation framework used to ensure continuous improvement of program delivery and outcomes.
• Contribute to Health Coordination team reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis and as required.
• Provide input into the development of evidence-based health promotion planning and delivery for the community
• Ensure all financial transactions are undertaken in line with approved MMIGP policy and delegations

Key Selection Criteria1. Understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community with a demonstrated understanding of the specific cultural and historical issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, particularly in response to intergenerational trauma.
2. Clear understanding of Aboriginal cultural knowledge, wisdom and ways of doing.
3. Experience working with a diversity of community groups including young people, LTGBI+, people living with a disability, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
4. Demonstrated experience and understanding of health promotions, public health including an understanding of social and environmental interventions.
5. Experience in program development, delivery and evaluation.
6. Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintain respectful relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders.
7. Well-developed organisational skills including ability to prioritise, complete tasks, respond to requests on time, and pay attention to detail and work independently.
8. Outcome focused with well-developed problem solving, decision-making skills and emotional intelligence.
9. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate, influence and engage with a broad range of stakeholders.
10. Proficiency in Information Technology with skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint (or similar presentation packages), emails and electronic file management.
Required• Qualification in Health Promotion/Community Development/Public Health or similar
• Current Victorian Driver’s License
• A current first aid certificate or willingness to obtain once employed
• A current or willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check and Police Check
• Available to work flexible hours including weekends, school holidays and afterhours where required
