About the Role
The Aboriginal Business Broker plays a key role in supporting Aboriginal businesses to access meaningful procurement, contract and growth opportunities. The role works directly with businesses to understand their capability, readiness and goals, while also working with corporate partners, government and industry to identify opportunities and facilitate connections. This position is critical in bridging the gap between supply and demand, ensuring Aboriginal businesses are visible, supported and positioned to participate in procurement and supply chain opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Build strong, respectful and trusted relationships with Aboriginal businesses across Victoria
  • Engage regularly with businesses to understand capability, services, capacity and growth goals
  • Support businesses to become procurement ready, including capability statements, compliance and tender readiness
  • Identify and address barriers to participation such as contract size, insurance, payment terms and tender complexity
  • Maintain accurate business profiles, engagement records and capability data
  • Identify procurement, subcontracting and supply chain opportunities across sectors
  • Work with corporate and government stakeholders to understand upcoming procurement needs and targets
  • Match suitable Aboriginal businesses to relevant opportunities
  • Facilitate introductions between businesses and buyers
  • Track outcomes including meetings, submissions, contracts awarded and barriers identified
  • Support delivery of events, workshops, supplier briefings and networking sessions
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships across government, corporate and industry
  • Provide advice to partners on engaging Aboriginal businesses and improving procurement accessibility
  • Maintain accurate data, reporting and insights on activity and outcomes
  • Contribute to identifying trends, gaps and opportunities for Aboriginal businesses
  • Support delivery of programs and initiatives that strengthen business participation in supply chains

Key Selection Criteria
  • Experience in business development, procurement, stakeholder engagement, account management or business support
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, respectful and trusted relationships with Aboriginal businesses and diverse stakeholders
  • Understanding of procurement processes, supplier engagement and business capability requirements
  • Strong communication skills, including written reports, emails and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to identify opportunities and match businesses with appropriate outcomes
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow-ups
  • High level of cultural awareness and respect when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience working within Aboriginal organisations, business networks or economic development programs (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Indigenous procurement policies or social procurement frameworks (desirable)
  • Understanding of Aboriginal business, community and economic development, particularly within Victoria
